Visiting a carnival has always been one of the top items on my bucket list. When a friend of mine invited me to visit her while she was in Colombia in February, and the dates coincided with Baranquilla carnival, it was a very quick and easy decision.
Barranquilla Carnival is one of Colombia’s most important folkloric celebrations. It’s a fusion of cultures, music, dance and tradition, with parades and performances spread around the city.
What impressed me the most is that everyone takes part, from really young children to quite elderly ladies and gentlemen. The costumes and the colours were mind-blowing. I hope my photographs will give you a feel of what it was like.
